Of Anglo-German descent,it was a location name given to one who came from Wigley ( the meadow that belonged to Wigg) a place in Derby since gone. Early records show John de Wiggeley in Derby in Edward 1st reign & Edmund Wigley from Derby of Oxford University in 1601.
The arms are recorded to Letita Wigley in 1328.
